well

is coming up with a solution to problems that arise because of a societal imperative for women to be beautiful and flawless the correct path, as opposed to focusing on the root problem?

If we ignore that whole thing, then yes, this is a “positive” step in the “right” direction, but agreed, not entirely breakthrough worthy.

let an irishman in?

took me a couple listens to realize they were singing about nourishment, not irishmen. got a knock them a couple points for sloppy jingle-singing.

touching

i guess all people are not good looking with scars and stuff but at least our skin will be soft and smooth

well

They might have their hearts in the right place, or they might still be trying to sell product. Which is okay, but makes me a little distrustfull. And the women are still models, airbrushed and gorgeous, and don't really accurately represent differing beauty norms and sizes, so...

and yet...

they're still not fat or ugly enough to be "real" women.

I really rate this campaign & cannot praise it enough

It really stands out amongst other beauty product campaigns - which in itself is good advertising, but the fact that it actually presents a different type of beauty and challenges people's perceptions of what beauty is - for me makes it a rare beast, a socially responsible ad too. Have you seen their ad where they show how a model goes from walking into a shoot to billboard?

Getting there

It's getting there, it's still not break through though.

"heart" in the right place

i want to love these spots, and this campaign...but i just don't!

the idea of "real beauty" is fantastic, that all size/shapes/colors of women are beautiful, but i guess it feels a little forced to me. not quite self-helpy, but only a few steps away.

neither dove nor american apparel get the girls right.

Finally...

P&G has gotten the memo that people other than skinny white women buy soap! They realize the buying power of those who aren't represented in the media often...

Wow! What a novel concept for such a large international corporation :P

Really it's about money in the end, but a step in a better direction.

L O V E IT!!!!

I’m probably in the minority here, but personally I think this is a work of a genius! And it’s about time 2! If you want to sell me a cream by a perfect air-brushed model, you better make sure I’d look the same after using it, and add her before and after to prove it works. But when they used real life women, it does make a difference. Even if only in its originality and not being afraid to take chances.

Great if...

...they stick to it. If they go back to model-like models the rate should go down to HACK.

Posted by: lolabetabel on October 9th, 2006.

you don't have to be model pretty . . .

to wear underwear to shill for a beauty product is what they are saying? You can be whatever shape, size, color, configuration as long as you are wearing underwear; gee, what a POSITIVE message. strip, ladies, the focus group demands it.

like it.

Not totally sure it works. It works for me, now I like the brand very much. I think David would be proud, but I have heard some mixed feelings from girls.

sorta breakthrough kinda

Except their still models. But a good start...
