Yes and No.

Loved jump rope.
Seen the gun idea somewhere else.

funny

i like the girl clapping and screaming at the end, that's a good transition before the logo ;)

perfect

I loved these, I think xbox has done a great job! Considering the third one was banned, it has been viewed a considerable amount online (where alot of their audience hangs out.)

i like the beat

.. all of these seem to engage me, i really like the music they've picked for them and the third one is hilarious!

bang

i like em but i don't see whats so great about the xbox

too nike-esque

The "Jump in" tagline at the end could have been more relevant. It worked slightly with the jumping ropes, cause, you know, they were jumping, but the rest? Not so much. Something like "Play" could have worked better. I liked watching them, though.

I think so...

the balloon thing looked like so much fun, but I don't get how it has anything to do with selling me an xbox. And I guess they're trying to imply that with xbox, you don;t have to do any of these things in real life (like killing tons of people), but I just don;t really like the idea of making a mass murder shootout into a fun game.

nike?

I think they put the wrong logo at the end of the spot.

What does this have to do with Xbox?

Posted by: blee2541 on October 18th, 2006.

guns are funny!

Plus it's a rip off from the English television show Spaced.

Love the jump rope spot.

Ballon spot is ok.

Too bad the little fatties won't be able to do any of these things after completing 100% of GTA.

Spaced

this is rehashed W + K, and the best ad of the bunch (Gun) is a ripoff off the hilarious Simon Pegg sitcom "Spaced". That said it still works, plucks those heart strings. Keep working, boys and girls, you've got to find the brand's myth.

I play xbox live

and the best thing about having an xbox/360 is hanging out with clannies. They're right on point with that.

However, nothing about these ads communicates to me what makes the XBL experience special.

Jumping rope (though beautifully executed) and having a water fight don't accurately reflect XBL. Standoff comes closest, but is borderline inappropriate the way it's executed.

The beauty of XBL is the team aspect. I'd like to see a revised Standoff with a younger cast, focusing on a guy and a girl duo in a digitally treated environment that makes it clear that it's not real life, but that the human connection and team camaraderie is very real.

loved the spots

Hate the hypocricy.

Posted by: cheekymonkey on September 19th, 2006.

sadlly agree.

suzerain has a good point the target is so us, the adult that still where fortunated enough to play outside. It is still sad, but then again, I studie this for a living. Overall great production, and an efective ad.

think about the target market

The game console market isn't about kids anymore; I think the issue of fake gunplay and kids is irrelevant. Most game consoles are sold to adults nowadays, so I guess the point here is about reclaiming the carefree nature of youth.

When viewed from that angle, the ads work, as far as I'm concerned. They're quirky enough to grab your attention and burn the logo into your retina, and that's about all a TV spot needs to do anyway.

Should have been edited to some Alanis Morisette...

Using kids playing and getting excercise outdoors to sell the XBOX. Isn't it, well you know the rest...

nike play got this shit on lock

the vaguely euro/latin background (apparently all of these were shot in buenos aires, well, not sure about jumprope) with the indigenous people running around. but the whole point is, it could work with nike since its an outdoor shoe company that actually promotes physical movement whereas the Xbox is an indoor entertainment company that promotes sedentary activity. the real hypocrisy is that you don't actually run around when you play xbox, you just stare at a plasma and drink gatorade.

seriously mixed reviews

The jump rope spot was brilliant...especially considering it was done in one take (unless they did some pretty wicked post work on it).

The water balloon spot was playful enough (the music helped), but I couldn't get past images of kids in the middle east hurling rocks at soldiers and tanks. The whole sneaking around corners bit is also a little too close to footage coming home from Iraq these days to be fodder for parody.

Which brings me to the gun fight. This is just plain irresponsible. Call me a humorless old bastard (I should note, I'm not in the demographic audience for PS2, so there's no reason to expect the spots to appeal to me), but I think gun violence is glorified enough in pop culture without this bit of over-the-top shenanigans. I know, it's supposed to be funny (and the cab driver joke is), and I should lighten up, but SONY is fucking around with a pretty serious issue, and not in the tradition of using sarcasm to call attention to an issue that needs attention (a la Jonathan Swift).

I realize the content of these spots reflects the product, and yes, it does so in a clever and engaging way, but I'm having a hard time with them. Not that I was going to buy a PS2 in the first place.

Just rip it!

All of it seems a bit Nike to me…I swear I have seen very similar campaigns. The gun fight is a replica of an episode of brit’s TV show “spaced”. The whole street culture…the music behind the water fight isn’t it a bit déjà vu?
But overall bravo! Evokes imagination and creativity. And the violence level is way down. For goodness sakes its water balloons!

Posted by: mimijung914 on July 19th, 2006.

I liked it when it was original.

production is great, but the idea (especially the water fight) is a straight ripoff of a PS2 ad (i think).
the gun one can't be good for kids, but i don't have any.
